Media Release – Layne Beachley and Sails Restaurant

World surfing champion Layne Beachley and Sails Beach Restaurant partner for a good cause. Multiple women’s world surfing champions Layne Beachley and Wendy Botha will head a star-studded cast of the best female surfers in history, as part of this year’s Noosa Festival of Surfing.

At sunset (from 5pm) on Thursday, 13 March, Sails Beach Restaurant will present an ‘all-girl shootout expression session’ at First Point, and afterwards host a night with the champions, plus pay tribute to Noosa’s own beach girl legend, the late Moy Sweetman.

Seven times world champion Layne Beachley, a regular celebrity guest at the Cricks Noosa Festival of Surfing, said: “I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Moy’s life than by getting the champions together and putting on a show. It’s what she did for other people, despite precarious health. She was a champion in her own right, loved the beach life and surfing culture.

We’ll all be out there to catch a wave in her memory.” The Sunshine Coast’s own 2013 world amateur champion Dimity Stoyle, four times world champ Wendy Botha and many other champions will join Layne for the ‘shootout’ before heading across the boardwalk at 7.30pm for the all-star charity dinner at Sails Beach Restaurant, which looks out over First Point.

Sails Beach Restaurant’s executive chef Paul Leete has created an exciting three course menu with choices. Expect dishes such as spanner crab lasagna with a raw tomato sauce; Hervey Bay scallop tostada; pancetta-wrapped Moreton Bay bug tails; and a decadent dessert of Belgian chocolate delice with dried cherry ripe and lavender cream. Sparkling, white and red wines plus a selection of beers are included.

With performances from Andrea Kirwin, a celebrity memorabilia auction and film clips of the girls, the dinner has all the hallmarks of being the Noosa Surfing Festival’s night of nights. Sails has pledged a large proportion of the ticket price to the fund raiser and all proceeds go to Layne Beachley’s Aim for the Stars Foundation, which gives cash support for promising young female achievers in difficult circumstances, and to Smart Pups, which provides guide and support dogs for special needs children.

Tickets are $95 per person and available only through Sails Beach Restaurant at www.sailsnoosa.com.au
